I’m excited to be a human being.

That pretty much makes everything fun. I read about investors who lost all their money and then read that the next 10 successful investors had the same experience and then I know that I not only want to experience that, but that it’s also likely that I will learn something from it. I’m always looking for the underlying principle or structure that guides successful people’s lives, because to me that’s the closest you can get to finding behaviors and actions to emulate without blindly replicating someone’s actions hoping to succeed the way they did. Examples of principles like these that I have found include simple ones like ‘search for and become aware of your interests and find your passion.’ While ‘finding your passion’ is a heavily contested piece of advice, I look for context for such advice within the person giving it, my own life, and how it fits into the overall structure of where the world seems to be going. For example, to me, finding and pursuing your passion makes sense given a lot of different characteristics of the time we’re living in — A. Technology making most jobs obselete. B. Longer life spans 3. Multiple-job economies 4. Remote work 5. An increasingly globalized world and market — a segment of your day dedicated to finding and capitalizing on your passion, given these features, becomes almost a necessity to sustain a good and content life.

Social media gives you access to the minds of the brightest and most interesting people, customized to your interests, and I love the opportunity to be one step closer in picking their brains. I play their thoughts like a radio and they shape my thoughts, vision and motivation. It’s like I have them as friends in my backyard. It’s fantastic, and I intend to capitalize on the luxury of the time I’m living in to the max.
